Active shooter training has become an important topic of discussion in recent years for universities and workplaces across the country.

As part of ongoing emergency preparedness efforts, TCU Police and members of Fort Worth Police Department SWAT will conduct joint training exercises from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 22-25 inside Tomlinson Hall (in Worth Hills) on the TCU campus.

The training may include role-playing of injured people and the use of non-lethal training ammunition, which may cause residents nearby to hear loud bangs or pops. These noises are a normal part of the training taking place.

TCU Police will control access to the area, and signage will mark that the area is in use for training exercises.

“TCU works closely with the Fort Worth police and fire departments and actively trains with them to ensure we are prepared in the event of an emergency,” said Adrian Andrews, assistant vice chancellor for Public Safety. “Training simulations like this help us review and test protocols to identify opportunities for improvement.”
