Class of 2020 celebrated May 7 and Class of 2021 honored May 8

Texas Christian University and Brite Divinity School celebrated the classes of 2020 and 2021 this past weekend with three in-person commencement ceremonies held in Amon G. Carter Stadium. Here’s a look a each graduating class by the numbers:

Class of 2020

More than 900 alumni (out of 2,740) from the Class of 2020 returned to campus from around the country to walk across the stage in front of their family and friends in a 4 p.m. ceremony May 7. Each graduate received a special 2020 commemorative medallion from Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr. (having previously received their diplomas in the mail).

Graduates in the class of 2020 came from 42 countries and 43 states. Of the total number of degree candidates, 2,156 earned bachelor’s degrees, 434 were master’s degree candidates, 111 were doctoral candidates and 39 were Brite Divinity School graduate candidates. Nine hundred seventeen graduated with Latin Honors: 386 cum laude, 375 magna cum laude and 156 summa cum laude. Twenty students earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Class of 2021

TCU and Brite Divinity School bestowed degrees in two ceremonies May 8 on 2,159 members of the class of 2021 from 49 states, including Texas, and 81 students from 36 countries. Of that number of degree candidates, 1,697 earned bachelor’s degrees, 399 were master’s candidates, 51 were doctoral candidates and 12 were Brite Divinity School graduate candidates. Forty-two candidates earned double degrees. Nine hundred three graduated with Latin Honors: 340 cum laude, 370 magna cum laude and 193 summa cum laude. Twenty-six students earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

The morning ceremony featured 1,121 candidates receiving degrees from AddRan College of Liberal Arts, the College of Education, the School for Interdisciplinary Studies and Neeley School of Business. The evening ceremony highlighted 1,038 candidates receiving degrees from the Bob Schieffer College of Communication, the College of Fine Arts, the College of Science & Engineering, Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences and Brite Divinity School.

Longtime Texas Christian University Trustee J. Luther King, Jr., president, CEO and managing principal of Luther King Capital Management, was presented with the degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, during the university’s Class of 2021 morning commencement ceremony. Read more about King.
