The Class of 2021 weathered unprecedented challenges on their journey to earning their degrees. TCU’s Office of Inclusiveness and Intercultural Services is paying tribute to these resilient and tenacious Horned Frogs with a Unity Celebration and video.

Now a graduate favorite, the Unity Celebration first began in spring 2018 as an event to bring together graduating first-generation students, Community Scholars, students from the Gender Resource Office and Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies majors to celebrate their academic achievements and campus involvement. Students from these programs are encouraged to share the invitation about the Unity Celebration with their fellow peers as well. This year’s come-and-go event took place on May 6 in the Dee J. Kelly Alumni & Visitors Center; the video played on a loop for graduates as they came by to pick up their graduation stole and certificate.
“The Unity Celebration is a culmination of all the hard work, academic excellence and campus engagement that our TCU graduates have done during their tenure here at the campus,” said Timeka Gordon, Ed.D., director of Inclusiveness and Intercultural Services. “It warms my heart to congratulate our students on this milestone achievement – especially for persevering in a most challenging year.”
In the video, Stacie McCormick, Ph.D., and Claire Sanders, Ph.D., co-directors of African American and Africana Studies at TCU, honor the class of 2021 graduates and charge them to empower others as they begin their next chapters. Santiago Piñón, Ph.D., director of Latinx Studies, and Scott Kurashige, Ph.D., chair of Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies, also offer congratulatory messages.
