Aug. 1 marks the 75th anniversary of the day President Harry S. Truman signed the Fulbright Program into law — and TCU is celebrating all year long.
Fifty-three students and 36 faculty members have participated in the Fulbright U.S. Student and Scholar programs during their time at TCU, and many more current and past TCU faculty have participated via previous institutions or in other Fulbright initiatives. A new TCU microsite celebrates Horned Frog Fulbrighters, sharing their stories and unique experiences during their time abroad as well as highlighting their amazing accomplishments in the program and beyond. Content — which will continue to be updated — includes interviews, written profiles, photos, videos and more.
A long and rich Fulbright tradition demonstrates TCU’s academic excellence and outcomes as well as strengthens the university’s reputation.
To date, the Fulbright Program has given 400,000 passionate and accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists and professionals of all backgrounds and fields the opportunity to study, teach, research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to complex global challenges. The competitive program awards some 8,000 fellowships each year.
As students, Horned Frog Fulbrighters traveled to 25 different host countries through the years: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Macau, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand and West Germany.
TCU faculty Fulbright scholars have visited 21 host countries: Austria, Bahrain, Botswana, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Japan, Lesotho, Lithuania, Mexico, Panama, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.
TCU students and faculty who have participated in the Fulbright Program are encouraged to join the celebration by submitting their mementos and stories to fulbright75@tcu.edu and use the #TCUFulbright75 hashtag on social media.
