Emily D. Mills, PhD, LPC-S is an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice and Training Clinic Director in the College of Education at Texas Christian University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor with extensive experience in counselor education, clinical supervision, and community-based mental health service delivery. Dr. Mills brings over 20 years of clinical experience to her work with students, clients, and the community.

In 2021, Dr. Mills founded and developed the TCU Counseling Training Clinic at the Fort Worth Independent School District Carter Riverside Family Resource Center, establishing an innovative university/school district partnership that expands access to mental health services while providing high-quality clinical training for graduate counseling students. In her role as Clinic Director, she oversees clinic operations, community partnerships, and clinical training. She serves as a primary supervisor for master’s and doctoral level counselors. Since 2021 the TCU Training clinic has served thousands of families while training dozens of counselors. Dr. Mills has worked with community partners and potential donors to secure funding for the future of the TCU training clinics and their expansion.

Dr. Mills enjoys teaching doctoral and master’s-level counseling courses; including advanced clinical skills, counseling interventions, practicum, internship, and supervision of counseling. Dr. Mills currently serves as doctoral advisor, supervisor, and teacher. She is passionate about preparing future counselor educators and supervisors for ethical, developmentally responsive clinical leadership.

Dr. Mills’ scholarly work focuses on adolescent counseling, ethical decision-making, confidentiality, and counselor development. She has published book chapters and peer reviewed articles and regularly presents at regional and national conferences on topics related to supervision, school/university partnerships, and mental health workforce development. She mentors student research and academic projects, providing academic and professional support.

In addition to her academic and clinical leadership roles, Dr. Mills maintains a private practice, serves on community mental health boards and leadership committees, and is actively engaged in professional service through organizations including the American Counseling Association, Chi Sigma Iota, and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.
