About

Praised for her "impressive artistry" and "wonderful bowing technique" (San Francisco Classical Voice), French cellist Juliette Herlin has performed throughout Europe, the U.S and Asia. As a soloist, chamber musician, and recitalist, she has appeared in prestigious venues such as the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Musée du Louvre, and the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Alice Tully Hall in New York, the Zhuhai and Chongqing Grand Theaters in China, and at the Minsk Philharmony in Belarus.

Recent highlights include a Canadian Recital Debut in Toronto with pianist Kevin Ahfat, a featured performance with Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, a Piano Trio recital at the Shenson Chamber Music Concerts (D.C.), a ten-concert Tour in China, as well as performances as part of Sundays Live at LACMA (CA) and Boston Court Pasadena (CA). Previous seasons' highlights included a Korean Debut with Beethoven's Triple Concerto at the Busan Maru International Music Festival (South Korea) and the North American Premiere of Camille Saint-Saëns' Third Cello Sonata as part of a recital presented by the Music Academy of the West.

An avid chamber musician, Juliette has performed with renowned artists Gérard Caussé, Martin Chalifour, Amaury Coeytaux (Modigliani Quartet), Glenn Dicterow, Romain Guyot, Frans Helmerson, Teng Li, Michaela Martin, Anthony Marwood, Roger Tapping, Hansjörg Schellenberger, and Donald Weilerstein. She is the cellist of the Aletheia Piano Trio alongside pianist Fei-Fei and violinist Francesca dePasquale. Formed in 2013 at the Juilliard School, the trio gave its debut performances at the Rose Studio and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York, and at the Terrace Theater at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The Aletheia Piano Trio has performed for Shenson Chamber Music Concerts (D.C.), PLAY the Classics at Bethel Woods (NY), Friends of Chamber Music (PA), Macon Concert Association at Wesleyan College (GA), Concerts in the Barn (Quilcene, WA), Chamber Music Society of Palm Beach (FL), Saint Vincent College Concert Series (PA), Shandelee Music Festival (NY), and the Busan Maru International Music Festival (Busan, Korea), which included Beethoven Triple Concerto with the Gustav Mahler Orchestra and conductor Wilson Ng. Additionally, the trio has toured China in 2018 and 2019, performing at Poly Theatres throughout the country. Recent media highlights include several broadcasts on NPR's Performance Today.

Winner of the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe String Competition, Juliette is also the recipient of first prizes at the International Vatelot/Rampal Music Competition and the UFAM Competition in Paris, as well as a Beverly Hills National Auditions winner. She has been awarded the Grunin Prize as well as grants from the "Fondation Safran pour la Musique" and the ADAMI. In France, Juliette has performed several times as a soloist with the Orchestre des Universités de Paris and the Orchestre des Étudiants du CNSMDP, under the direction of Maxime Pascal. Her performances have been featured frequently on NPR's Performance Today, WFMT, KUSC, and numerous times on France Musique, France's central classical music station.

Juliette has had the opportunity to work closely with artists such as Itzhak Perlman, Alan Gilbert, Robert Levin, Ida Kavafian, David Finckel, and Joseph Kalichstein. She has been invited to Yellow Barn, the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop, the Music Academy of the West, Encuentro de Santander (Spain), the Festival Pablo Casals (France), the International Holland Music Sessions (Netherlands), and, among others, the Festival Jeunes Talents.

As a dedicated advocate for contemporary music, she actively collaborates with prominent composers such as Kaija Saariaho, Jörg Widmann, and Andrew Norman, and has premiered many new works and commissions. Eager to discover various repertoires and to explore historically informed performances, Juliette (who studied harpsichord as a child) has taken baroque cello lessons with Phoebe Carrai, William Skeen and Bruno Cocset.

A substitute player with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestre National de l'Opéra de Paris and has performed with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France and the Ensemble Inter-Contemporain, Juliette has performed under conductors such as Thomas Ades, Alain Altinoglu, Seymon Bychkov, Alan Gilbert, Zoltán Kocsis, Georges Prêtre, and Leonard Slatkin.

Juliette recently joined the faculty at Texas Christian University's School of Music. She has given masterclasses at the Moores School of Music (University of Houston), Moravian College (PA), and at the Zhuhai and Hangzhou Grand Theaters, among others. She was admitted at the age of sixteen to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP) where she obtained her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees studying with Jérôme Pernoo. She pursued her studies at the Juilliard School with Richard Aaron. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Southern California under the guidance of Ralph Kirshbaum.
