Biography
Madhukari Guha is a fourth-year doctoral student in English literature at Texas Christian University. She completed her B.A. and M.A. degrees from Presidency University, Kolkata, India. Her dissertation explores the transimperial intimacies and fluidities between social groups born of colonial contact in the long nineteenth century, by reading British, Anglo-Indian, and Indian literary and cultural texts. Her research project contributes to the ongoing efforts to “undiscipline” and “widen” the field of nineteenth century studies. Madhukari has presented her work at international nineteenth-century conferences such as INCS, NAVSA, MVSA, BWWC, and VPFA. Madhukari’s article “The ‘Black’ Nabobs and The ‘White’ Baboos: Transimperial Intimacies and Fluidities” will appear in the special issue (Victorians and Race) of the journal Victorians: A Journal of Culture and Literature in Winter 2025. She is currently working on a book chapter titled “Tracing the Indian Roots of Dracula: Bram Stoker’s Decadent Orientalism” for a Dracula Companion in Peter Lang’s Genre Fiction and Film Companions series and a pedagogical essay for the Undisciplining Victorian Classroom (UVC) project.
