Sayed Gilani

Hello! My name is Sayed Gilani, and I am a second year PhD student of Literature in the English Department. I graduated from Southern Methodist University in 2021 with a B.A. in English and a Creative Writing Specialization. I also attained my Master of Liberal Studies from SMU in 2023 with dual specializations in Literature and Human Rights. My two main fields of interest are Literature of the Global South and the Black Atlantic. I’ve taken a liking to anything transpacific or oceanic and look forward to developing those passions into a dissertation. Outside of academia, I’m a film buff, music lover, and sports fan so my free time is typically occupied by one of those things as to always keep my plate full. I’m also the current President of our English Graduate Student Association (EGSA), so feel free to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or thoughts of how to improve graduate student life in this department.
