Selina Humphrey

Graduate Student

Selina Humphrey earned a B.A. in English and a B.S. in History, both with Departmental Honors, from Texas Wesleyan University. Selina's primary research centers on the genre of Autotheory, which blends embodied memoir writing with theory and philosophy. These research efforts will move from individual self-theorizing to a larger-scale ethnographic study, with the goal of developing writing practices that support healing and empowerment for survivors of sexual trauma. In addition, Selina engages the digital humanities, with a particular focus on tools and programs that can assist writers during the revision process. In contexts of trauma writing, such programs can serve as an objective sounding board before sharing with others.

Selina is currently pursuing the TCU Women and Gender Studies graduate certificate as well as a Canadian Certificate in Digital Humanities through the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) combined with the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur les humanités numériques (CRIHN). She serves as Program Assistant for the Digital Culture and Data Analytics Program, where she is committed to bridging the gaps between the humanities and technology. Beyond academia, Selina is a mother of four and a creative writer and artist who enjoys poetry, karaoke, and painting.
