My name is Shafiq Said, and I am a native of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, though I also spent several years living abroad with my father’s family in Jordan. I earned my B.A. in Finance and Economics from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2009 and went on to work in corporate banking and finance before transitioning to the field of literature. In 2020, I completed a Master’s degree in English along with a graduate certificate in Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies at Texas Christian University.
Currently, I am in my fourth year of doctoral study, pursuing a Ph.D. in American Literature with a research focus on Muslim-American and multicultural authorship. My work examines issues of race, ethnicity, and intersectional identity, with particular attention to how these dynamics shape, marginalize, and reframe the literary and cultural narratives of minority writers.
Outside of my academic work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two children, as well as pursuing creative writing and woodworking.
