Lend A Frog A Hand
A Campus Innovation Challenge
Lend A Frog A Hand is a new annual challenge that connects TCU organizations with the creativity of the TCU community. Each year, campus organizations apply to share a challenge they are facing. One organization is selected, and the TCU community works together to develop solutions. The first organization to participate is ReFrog™.
ReFrog™ App Challenge Details
ReFrog ™ needs a working application to run its operation: tracking who shops, what comes in as donations, what goes out, and who volunteers. The person or team will design and build that app over a multi-week challenge and deliver a fully working model that ReFrog ™ can adopt, maintain, and update going forward.
You may build on any platform you choose. You will be judged on the finished app and how well it serves ReFrog ™, not on the technology you used to build it.
What are you building?
An app that tracks shopping activity, donations, “shopping,” and volunteers for ReFrog ™. Access is largely limited to the TCU community, except a small number of volunteers from outside TCU. The core requirements below are non-negotiable. Additional features are encouraged if your core app is solid. The look and feel are up to you, but it must align with the TCU branding guidelines.
Core Requirements
- Log shopping visits by role, distinguishing students, faculty, and staff.
- Record donations, including the number of items received.
- Track the number of items taken by shoppers and by volunteers, so the app reflects a running inventory picture.
- Provide a volunteer sign-up flow where volunteers can register for a specific day, time, and location.
- Restrict access to TCU email addresses. Only users with a valid TCU email (@tcu.edu) may register or log in. A format check alone is not enough. Accounts must be verified through an email confirmation step (or TCU single sign-on). Non-TCU email addresses must be blocked. Single sign-on will require assistance from IT and may be provided for the winning app.
Additional Features
- Automated volunteer reminders by email or text.
- Reporting dashboards for ReFrog ™ staff (visits over time, donation totals, shopping by location, individual, and type of item).
- Role-based views, so volunteers and administrators see different screens.
