Year’s first town hall scheduled for Sept. 29
The Texas Christian University Race & Reconciliation Initiative will build upon the positive and productive momentum amassed during its first year by continuing with the research plan outlined in its inaugural year, focusing more concretely upon “The Founding Years” (1861-1891) and with an eye on broadening the window horizontally to include Native American and Latinx experiences among others.
“We continue to include even more voices in our growing conversation surrounding reconciliation,” Frederick W. Gooding Jr., chair of RRI and the Dr. Ronald E. Moore Honors Professor of Humanities, said. “It is only through the sustained efforts like these whereby our campus community truly benefits from the manifold lessons that reconciliation has yet to teach us.”
RRI will work with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to institutionalize all seven RRI Recommendations unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees in April 2021.
Virtual Town Hall Meetings Launch Sept. 29
RRI will continue to engage the larger campus community with a five-part series of Virtual Town Hall Meetings over the fall and spring semesters. Each VTHM is titled “What Does Reconciliation Mean to You?” and will feature representatives from two colleges discussing how reconciliation is reflected in their communities. The first one is at noon Sept. 29, and will be presented by the John V. Roach Honors College and the TCU and UNTHSC School of Medicine.
Reconcile This! podcast returns
Other areas of focus will include the international podcast series Reconcile This! that features candid conversations about race and more. The next episode is available now with the second one to air Oct. 4.

Boschini, Jr. and the Board of Trustees established the Race & Reconciliation Initiative with the charge to study TCU’s relationship with slavery, racism and the Confederacy. On the basis of our campus community's consistent support for this initiative, Provost Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg has committed to a five-year plan for RRI.
