Texas Christian University has once again been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation for its healthy trees and efforts to engage students and staff in the spirit of conservation.

“We are home to approximately 3,200 trees, so we are proud to once again be recognized as a Tree Campus Higher Education,” said Todd Waldvogel, associate vice chancellor for facilities and campus planning. “We are committed to caring for our urban forest, and we recognize the incredible impact that our trees have on the comfort and beauty of our TCU campus.”

To obtain this distinction, TCU meets the five core standards for an effective campus forest management: establishment of a campus tree advisory committee, evidence of a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for tree care, observance of Arbor Day and sponsorship of student service-learning projects.

The recognition program was launched in 2008 to honor colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation. In late 2015, the President of the Arbor Day Foundation personally invited Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr. to apply, and TCU was first approved for 2016.
