James Cash ’69 was recently honored by Harvard University in the naming of Cash House, a renovated building on the campus of the Harvard Business School.

spotlight“I’m not sure there’s any way to express what this really means to me,” Cash said at a recent dedication ceremony.

He cited as inspiration words from a friend that he hopes he’s followed: “Preach the gospel every day and only use words when you have to.”

“And what that of course translates into, given that we have a broad range of religions, a broad range of beliefs,” Cash said, “the one thing that’s in common across all those is 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you'.”

He said he hopes he’s lived that out.

“It is quite important symbolically to have a name on a building that helps people feel represented,” Cash said. “But that thing we’re all going to have to work on together is the lived experiences – of the students here, of the people we come into contact with in our lives.”

Cash House was recently renovated to house executive education staff and the office of diversity, equity and inclusion. It was originally designed as a faculty residence as one of the 12 original buildings on the HBS campus.

Traveling to the dedication to honor Cash were Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr. and Vice Chancellor of Advancement Don Whelan and TCU Trustees Amy Bailey, Ron Parker, Eddie Clark, Bryan King and Trustee Emeritus Luther King.
