The stretch of University Drive that runs through the TCU campus is scheduled for improvements that will usher in safer vehicle and pedestrian traffic. While the campus community will start to see minor work soon, TCU and the city of Fort Worth are working together to schedule most of the work during the summer in order to minimize the disruption.
“While we may experience some inconveniences along the way, the final result of this much-needed project will improve safety for both vehicles and pedestrians through campus and also provide additional beautification,” said Morgan McGlothlin, project manager with TCU Facilities.
Upon completion of construction, McGlothlin explained, users will benefit from upgraded traffic signals and enhanced crosswalks. The project will concurrently widen walkways and expand median landscaping for safety.
The most visible construction is set to begin after Commencement in May. The street construction will result in inside lanes being closed in the first phase, and outside lanes being closed in the second. Sidewalk closures will also be phased, but alternate walking paths will be installed, and work is targeted for the less-busy summer months.
“We plan for the lion’s share of the work to take place over summer and to mitigate the impact as much as possible in the fall,” said McGlothlin.
