Texas Christian University celebrated its largest graduating class in history at Schollmaier Arena over the weekend, honoring more than 2,900 students during four ceremonies, including its first-ever designated for graduate students, a special moment recognizing Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr., and a recognition of writer and producer Taylor Sheridan with an honorary Doctor of Letters degree.
The May 9 ceremony celebrated students earning graduate degrees from eight of TCU’s colleges and schools, including the Burnett School of Medicine at TCU and Brite Divinity School. The evening also included a degree for Sheridan, who advised the graduates to view rejection as a gift.
“Prove them wrong, and never look back for their reaction to your success,” Sheridan said to applause. “They belong where they are — squarely in your shadow.”
Sheridan was honored for his significant contributions to the arts, the Texas film industry, the Fort Worth community and to TCU itself. The Fort Worth native is the visionary behind Yellowstone, Hell or High Water and Landman – the first season of which included filming at TCU. He continues to work closely with Horned Frogs, providing opportunity to Film, Television and Digital media students and other Horned Frogs.
Of the more than 2,900 degree candidates throughout the weekend, students hailed from all 50 states and 46 countries. Nearly 1,400 graduates earned Latin honors, with over 50 achieving perfect 4.0 GPAs and 59 completing double degrees.
President Daniel W. Pullin delivered remarks and recognized Boschini.
“Spring commencement this year is particularly special. As many of you may know, Chancellor Boschini will soon be transitioning to a new role as chancellor emeritus,” Pullin said. “He will be a working chancellor emeritus and continue to advance TCU’s mission through teaching, serving as chief enrollment officer, friend-raising and fundraising.”
Boschini was then presented a compilation of hundreds of letters written from Horned Frogs. During the ceremony, Boschini delivered some parting advice.
“If you commit to something, see it through. Do more listening than talking,” he said. “Show grace, with kindness in your heart. Thank you for choosing TCU. Your Horned Frog family will always be here for you, cheering you on. Go Frogs!”
