Bernard Rousseau joins Texas Christian University as the Marilyn and Morgan Davies Dean of the Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences. He brings more than 20 years of experience in leadership roles at three Top 100, Carnegie R1 institutions – Vanderbilt University, University of Pittsburgh and Saint Louis University.

Rousseau is a proven leader in increasing research expenditures, recruiting faculty, appointing leaders, improving rankings, exceeding student retention rates and securing gifts and pledges. His most recent leadership position was as dean of the Edward and Margaret Doisy College of Health Sciences at Saint Louis University, one of the largest colleges at the university. He is a professor of speech, language and hearing sciences.

“Dr. Rousseau possesses an insightful understanding of academic leadership and a strong commitment to student success,” said Floyd L. Wormley Jr., TCU provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. “He is dedicated to collaboration, strategic direction, excellence in teaching and learning, and supporting faculty and staff. These distinguishing skills will help Harris College achieve exceptional levels of teaching, learning, scholarship, research and discovery.”

As dean, Rousseau will build upon Harris College’s renowned nursing and health science enterprise to lead its next phase of growth and development. He will set priorities and pathways to enhance and promote research, community-engaged scholarship and excellence in undergraduate, graduate and professional education. He will advance the scholarly activities of the faculty with a philosophy of professionalism and care.

“My vision for Harris College is to be a national leader in health sciences education and student success and retention,” Rousseau said. “We will deliver a world-class, integrated approach to health sciences education with unparalleled access to interprofessional research training experiences, enhanced clinical opportunities through partnerships with health care organizations, expanded community impact through health care initiatives and talent development to address national workforce shortages. I look forward to joining the TCU community to lead the Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences and support its faculty, staff, learners and alumni.”

About the Dean
Rousseau has served as dean of the Doisy College of Health Sciences at Saint Louis University, associate dean and department chair in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, associate vice chair for research in the Department of Otolaryngology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and Chancellor Faculty Fellow at Vanderbilt University. He is president of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation, a fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and an associate fellow of the American Laryngological Association. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s in communicative disorders from the University of Central Florida, his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Master of Management in Health Care from the Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management and a clinical fellowship in speech-language pathology from Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

He begins at TCU June 30.
