Dr. Brandy Mounts is a counselor educator, clinical supervisor, and behavioral health leader with over 20 years of experience in school counseling, clinical mental health counseling, and counselor education. She holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Texas Tech University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S).

Dr. Mounts is the Co-Founder and CEO of Alliance Counseling Works, a multi-site group practice established in 2018 that has grown to include more than 35 counselors across multiple locations, serving over 700 clients monthly. Her work has focused on expanding access to high-quality mental health care while building sustainable, ethical systems that support both client care and counselor training. She now brings that experience into her teaching, with an emphasis on preparing counselors for the realities of clinical practice.

A major focus of Dr. Mounts’ work is training and supervising counselors across developmental levels. She developed and oversees a low-cost community clinic that serves as a structured training site for practicum and internship students, combining supervision, live clinical experience, and mentorship while increasing access to care for underserved populations. In addition to supervising graduate students, she also provides clinical supervision to associates pursuing licensure as they transition into independent practice.

Dr. Mounts has extensive experience in clinical supervision, including work with practicum and internship students, post-graduate associates, and early-career clinicians. Her approach to counseling and supervision is grounded in a humanistic and relational framework, drawing from Relational-Cultural Theory. She emphasizes the capacity for growth, the importance of authentic connection, and the role of cultural and relational context in shaping client experiences. Her work prioritizes empathy, collaboration, and empowerment, using the therapeutic relationship as a primary mechanism for change. These principles also guide her supervision and teaching, where she supports counselor development through relational engagement, self-awareness, and reflective practice. While grounded in a humanistic and relational perspective, she integrates evidence-based and developmentally appropriate interventions to meet the needs of diverse clients and trainees.

Dr. Mounts has several years of experience teaching graduate counseling courses, including advanced clinical skills, practicum, and internship. Her teaching is relational and experiential, helping students connect theory with real-world practice. She places a strong emphasis on preparing counselors for the transition from training to practice, including clinical decision-making, ethical responsibility, and professional identity development.

In addition to her clinical and teaching roles, Dr. Mounts develops and delivers continuing education trainings on topics such as ethics, trauma-informed care, and counselor development. She regularly presents and facilitates professional trainings at state, national, and community levels, including conferences hosted by the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), the Texas Counseling Association (TCA), and the Texas Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (TACES).

Her professional interests include counselor supervision, counselor development, ethical practice, access to care, and the development of community-based mental health systems. She is particularly interested in preparing counselors and future supervisors for work in complex, real-world clinical settings.
