Texas Interprofessional Education Consortium

Interprofessional practice and education (IPE) prepares future health practitioners to successfully participate in collaborative, patient-centered care. However, successful implementation of IPE within higher education remains elusive to many institutions. As one strategy to address this, leadership from academic health sciences centers in the state of Texas formed the Texas Interprofessional Education (IPE) Task Force in 2015. Renamed the Texas Interprofessional Education (IPE) Consortium in 2018, the purpose of the consortium is to foster cross-institutional collaboration in order to expand learning opportunities and reinforce value for IPE as a critical aspect of health professions education

National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education

The National Center is charged to provide the leadership, evidence and resources needed to guide the nation on interprofessional education and collaborative practice.

Interprofessional Education Collaboration

In 2009 six national education associations of schools of the health professions formed a collaborative to promote and encourage constituent efforts that would advance substantive interprofessional learning experiences to help prepare future health professionals for enhanced team-based care of patients and improved population health outcomes. These organizations that represent higher education in allopathic and osteopathic medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, and public health created core competencies for interprofessional collaborative practice to guide curricula development across health professions schools.

Although the original 2011 panel focused its recommendations on the professions of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, and public health, IPEC continues to engage multiple health professions in its efforts to guide curriculum development across health professions schools.

Institute for Healthcare Improvement

For more than 25 years, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) has used improvement science to advance and sustain better outcomes in health and health care across the world. We bring awareness of safety and quality to millions, accelerate learning and the systematic improvement of care, develop solutions to previously intractable challenges, and mobilize health systems, communities, regions, and nations to reduce harm and deaths. We work in collaboration with the growing IHI community to spark bold, inventive ways to improve the health of individuals and populations. We generate optimism, harvest fresh ideas, and support anyone, anywhere who wants to profoundly change health and health care for the better.

American Interprofessional Health Collaborative

The American Interprofessional Health Collaborative transcends boundaries to transform learning, policies, practices, and scholarship toward an improved system of health and wellness for individual patients, communities, and populations. It believes educating those entrusted with the health of individuals, communities, and populations to value and respect each other’s unique expertise and skills and to work together is fundamental to care that is effective, safe, of high quality, and efficient in terms of cost, resources, and time.
