Katie Farmer ’92 (MBA ’96)
President & CEO | BNSF Railway
Katie Farmer leads BNSF Railway, a Fortune 500 company, as president and CEO — the first woman to head a Class I railroad.
Farmer’s ascent to this groundbreaking role began in the TCU Neeley School of Business, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in 1992 and an MBA in 1996. She started her career as a management trainee before climbing the ranks of BNSF. Her steady rise included the role of executive vice president of operations, positioning her perfectly for the title that would cement her place in transportation history.
Farmer’s leadership extends beyond the railroad as a member of TCU’s Board of Trustees, helping shape the university’s future for the next generation of Horned Frog leaders.
Katie in Her Own Words
“The leadership lesson that I try to remind myself [of]…is to listen more and talk less…My job as a leader is to listen, to empower them and make them successful.”
—Katie Farmer
